To help us maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for all visitors, we are seeking a friendly and dependable Site Assistant to join our team. The successful applicant will work alongside the Site Manager and Deputy Site Manager, providing essential evening and weekend site support.

The Role
Role Title: Site Assistant
Location: Wombourne Civic Centre, Gravel Hill, Wombourne, WV5 9HA
Responsible to: Site Manager (or Deputy Site Manager in their absence)
Status: Permanent (subject to a successful 6-month probationary period)
Hours: Average 15 hours per week (alternating shifts, evenings and weekends required)
Salary: £12.31 per hour (Annual salary: £9,602)
Pension: NEST Workplace Pension Scheme (3%)
Annual Leave: 21 days (rising to 25 after 5 years), plus bank holidays (pro-rata)
Working Environment: On-site only. This role involves manual handling, indoor and outdoor work and requires flexibility. Uniform and equipment provided.
Job Description
Main Purpose of the Role
The Site Assistant supports the Civic Centre’s daily operations, helping with opening and locking the premises, setting up rooms, cleaning and ensuring the safety and comfort of building users during evening and weekend bookings.
Key Responsibilities
Open and lock the Civic Centre when required Set up and dismantle tables, chairs and equipment for hirers and events Provide a professional and welcoming presence for visitors Carry out cleaning duties to ensure high standards of hygiene and presentation Report any maintenance or health and safety concerns to the Site Manager or Deputy Site Manager Assist with basic health and safety checks (e.g. fire doors, exits, lighting) Support Civic Centre events, including weekend functions Act as an on-site contact for hirers and ensure all requirements are met Gardening, including grass cutting, hedge cutting, weeding You must be able to work independently while on shift and follow task lists provided
Working Pattern & Flexibility
The role averages 15 hours per week and follows a 4-week rota as below:
Weeks 1–4 Monday: 3:00pm – 9:00pm
Week 3 only Friday & Saturday: 6:30pm – 12:30am
Flexibility to cover functions and respond to urgent site needs is essential.
Please note: The current Part-Time Superintendent works one weekend in four (Friday and Saturday functions, typically evenings). During this time, weekend cover will not alternate consistently. The Site Assistant’s hours will flex to accommodate Civic Centre functions and the Superintendent’s schedule.
Flexibility Requirement
The Site Assistant must demonstrate flexibility to:
Cover duties currently fulfilled by the Part-Time Superintendent Work additional hours for Civic Centre bookings, particularly at weekends and evenings Provide cover during periods of absence within the site team Due to the requirement to attend site quickly in the event of an emergency (e.g. fire alarm, security breach or urgent maintenance issue), the successful candidate should ideally live within a 15–20 minute travel time of Wombourne Civic Centre. This is considered a necessary and proportionate operational requirement for the role. Flexibility may be considered where equivalent response times can be guaranteed. A Full UK Driving Licence is essential.

The role involves assisting with caretaking tasks, basic cleaning, room set-up for bookings and ensuring a secure, welcoming environment for users. The Site Assistant works under the direction of the Site Manager or Deputy Site Manager and must be comfortable working independently during evening and weekend shifts.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Support
Open and lock the Civic Centre when required Set up and clear away tables, chairs and equipment for meetings and events Perform light cleaning tasks to ensure communal areas remain tidy and presentable Monitor and report any maintenance issues or supply needs to the Site Manager or Deputy Follow checklists to complete assigned duties efficiently and accurately Security and Safety
Act as a keyholder when on shift and respond appropriately to any emergencies Carry out basic site checks (e.g., fire exits, lighting) Maintain safe access to the building, especially during poor weather conditions Report health and safety concerns in line with Council procedures Event and Hirer Liaison
Provide a helpful and professional presence during evening or weekend bookings Greet hirers and ensure rooms are set up according to their needs Report feedback or issues from hirers to the Site Manager Team Support
Work under the guidance of the Site Manager and Deputy Site Manager Cooperate with other members of the site team to ensure the Centre operates efficiently General
