About the Opportunity

As a Postdoctoral Researcher – AI for Sustainability, you’ll join IBM’s Climate & Sustainability and Sustainable Materials teams, driving innovation in generative AI and foundational models for real-world environmental applications. Based in Hursley or Warrington (hybrid model, 3 days onsite), this role is ideal for early-career researchers passionate about AI’s role in solving climate and sustainability challenges.

You’ll work on advanced AI architectures, multimodal tasks, and domain-specific applications, with the opportunity to publish in top-tier journals and contribute to patents. IBM provides a collaborative environment, continuous development, and the support to explore bold research ideas that have real-world impact.

What We’re Looking For

PhD in Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or a related field
Experience with AI model development using PyTorch, TensorFlow, or similar frameworks
Expertise in areas such as transfer learning, reinforcement learning, and model distillation
Strong background in generative models (e.g. LLMs, multi-modal AI)
Demonstrated ability to publish in leading research venues (e.g. NeurIPS, ICLR, AAAI)
Passion for tackling sustainability challenges using AI
