We are seeking to appoint a Lecturer (0.5 FTE) in International Relations to join our dynamic and collegial teaching team in the Department of History, Politics and Philosophy for a one-year period. This fixed-term post will support the delivery of world-class undergraduate and postgraduate education while a permanent colleague is on sabbatical.

In this role, you will take a lead in teaching core modules in international relations theory and the history of IR at both undergraduate and MA levels. You will also contribute to wider teaching across the department, supporting a curriculum that is critically informed, inclusive, and responsive to the evolving nature of the discipline.

Our approach to teaching IR is rooted in a commitment to challenge marginalisation and epistemic injustice. We equip students to engage with both positivist and post-positivist traditions in IR, and to think deeply about the role of theory and history in shaping the field. These modules are central to a broader Politics and IR programme that explores contemporary global politics through feminist, postcolonial, and decolonial lenses.

We are particularly keen to hear from candidates with expertise in critical and post-positivist approaches to IR theory, who can support our students in developing nuanced, theoretically grounded arguments and confidence in their intellectual positions.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead and deliver core teaching in international relations theory and the history of IR at undergraduate and MA level.
Contribute to team-taught modules and other areas of teaching across the Politics and IR curriculum.
Engage students in critical, inclusive and theoretically rich learning experiences.
Support student learning, assessment and academic development.

You will hold (or be near completion of) a PhD in International Relations or a related discipline, with demonstrable expertise in IR theory. You will have experience of teaching in higher education and a strong commitment to inclusive and reflective pedagogical practices. You'll be a collegial team member, committed to student success and engaged scholarship
