Role overview
As an Associate Mechanical Design Engineer, you will support the development of mechanical components and systems under the guidance of senior engineers.
This is a hands-on, learning-focused role ideal for a graduate or early-career engineer looking to grow in the field of advanced maritime technology.
Responsibilities will include
- Assist in creating 2D and 3D CAD models of mechanical parts and assemblies.
- Support the team in developing and reviewing design documentation, specifications, and reports.
- Work with engineers to carry out basic design calculations and simulations under supervision.
- Participate in material selection processes, testing and prototype builds.
- Engage in peer reviews, team meetings, and multidisciplinary collaboration.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date design records.
- Learn through hands-on experience, mentoring, and continuous feedback.
Qualifications and experience
Requirements
- A degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline or a completed modern apprenticeship would also be of interest .
- Proficiency in CAD tools such as SolidWorks or Inventor.
- Ability to communicate design ideas clearly through sketches and presentations.
- A proactive, curious mindset with a willingness to learn.
- Good understanding of engineering principles, materials, and manufacturing processes.
- An interest in working in the maritime or defence sectors.
- Right to live and work in the UK.
Desirable but not essential
- Industrial placement or internship experience.
- Exposure to FEA, CFD or other engineering analysis tools.
- Familiarity with marine systems or regulated environments.
Note: Due to the nature of work undertaken at SubSea Craft, the selected candidate must be capable of meeting the security requirements of the position, which would include as a minimum Existing right to live and work in the UK, Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), with Security Check likely for specific projects.*
