About Us
The Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) is the UK’s overseas intelligence agency, responsible for collecting foreign intelligence to protect national security, support economic well-being, and prevent serious crime. Operating under the authority of the Foreign Secretary, MI6 collaborates with agents and global partners to understand international threats, counter hostile state activities, and prevent terrorism and cyber attacks.
Founded in 1909 and formalised under the Intelligence Services Act 1994, MI6 operates within a legal and ethical framework. The agency values integrity, courage, creativity, and respect, and promotes innovation and accountability.
MI6 works closely with other UK government departments and international allies to provide intelligence that informs and impacts government decision-making.
MI6 offers a range of exciting early-career opportunities for students, graduates, and school-leavers, including a paid summer intelligence internship, graduate schemes in technology, and apprenticeships in software engineering. Entry roles such as Intelligence Officer, Language Specialist, and Business Support Officer provide structured training, mentorship, and rotation across departments. These roles are designed to develop future talent while promoting diversity, inclusion, and innovation within the UK’s overseas intelligence service. All positions require UK security clearance, and MI6 provides support throughout the vetting and onboarding process.
